The Cape Central High School competition cheerleading team traveled to Columbia, Missouri on October 31 for state competition. Before traveling to state, we had regionals where the CHS team placed 2nd in their division. At the state competition they received 5th place in the 4A small division. Senior Adeline Cook was recognized for All-State in the categories of jumps and tumbling. The competition team is very different from what you would see at a football game or a basketball game, they put in many hours and many practices to have a two-and-a half minute routine ready. Their routine includes stunting, pyramids, jumping, tumbling and a dance which is about a minute long cheer before the routine. The routine is judged by difficulty, timing, execution, and energy.
Not many people pay attention to competition cheerleaders but there are also so many different competition teams all over the world. Competitive cheerleading has many physical and mental aspects and physical demands that come along with it, such as staying in shape, intense conditioning, and complex moves. It’s more than a fun activity, it’s a sport you have to put all your time and effort into.
