Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte!

Hayes, Natalie I

As the weather grows colder and we dive deeper in fall, loyal Starbucks customers are awaiting their favorite autumn drink, the warm, smooth Pumpkin Spice Latte. The Pumpkin Spice Latte can also be referred to as “PSL” and has been with us since 2003. Most would think people would be over it by now, but that is not the case.  This year there was so much craze over the PSL that Starbucks decided to launch the annual drink six days earlier than normal. The typical release date every year for these fancy lattes is after Labor Day weekend, however, Starbucks launched it this year on August 27th.

So what goes into a Pumpkin Spice Latte that makes it so delicious? The recipe for the PSL consists of the following: 2% milk steamed, 2 shots of espresso, pumpkin spice topping with whipped cream, and four pumps of pumpkin sauce. The taste and smells of this latte just immediately warms the body. On average, the sale of Pumpkin Spice Lattes generates about 80 million dollars per year. This is more than just a drink to a lot of people. This drink became so popular that it gained an influence on social media. In 2014 on a single fall day, the hashtag ‘PSL’ was used 12 million times daily on average. Most would think the craze over this one drink was enough, but Starbucks went for more.

Introducing… Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew! This new tasty drink is made with cold brew coffee, three pumps of vanilla, then topped with pumpkin cream cold foam and dusted with Starbuck’s signature Pumpkin Spice topping. Most would think that with the weather cooling off that customers would want a hot drink but that is not the case. In fact, 50% of Starbucks ‘ annual sales are either iced coffees or their Refreshers. The Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew is considered a healthier and cheaper alternative to the original PSL. Overall, both drinks are very tasty and very popular with the customers of Starbucks and continue to be successful every year.
