Wild World of the Animal Kingdom

Wild World of the Animal Kingdom

Today I’ll be covering the real kings and queens of the jungle. Our scholarly mascot is one of the most majestic creatures alive in the wild today. These striped behemoths are subject to many misinformation. In my opinion I believe the tiger is revered by many just off appearance even though they are capable for so much more. Without further ado:

  • The tiger is the biggest species in the cat family
  • Tigers have been know to grow 11 feet long and weigh about 700 pounds
  • Many subspecies of tigers are either extinct or endangered
  • Tiger cubs leave their mothers around the age of 2
  • A group of tigers is known as an ambush or streak
  • They can also swim up to 6 kilometers
  • They hunt alone at night
  • Tigers can reach speeds of up to 40 mph
  • Tigers can jump up to 5 meters high
  • There are more tigers held privately in captivity than there are in the wild.
  • Tiger cubs cost up to 8000 dollars to buy as a pet
  • Tigers live up to 20 to even 26 years in the wild
  • Adult tigers generally live alone
  • Cubs open their eyes 2 to 3 weeks after birth
  • Cubs learn to hunt at around 6 months of age
  • Tigers have 4 inch teeth and claws the size of house keys
  • Usually have 12 pound meals
  • Tigers are the 3rd largest carnivores on land
  • The stripes on tigers run skin deep too
  • No two tigers have the same stripe pattern
  • A tigers roar can be heard from up to 2 miles away
  • Tigers can leap 20 to 30 feet forward in one jump
  • Tigers have white spots on the back of their ears to ward off any would be predator to fool them into thinking they are eyes
  • Whatever a tiger considers a predator must be frightening in my opinion.
