2021 Tigers Baseball Pre-season Analysis
It was quite disappointing for the 2020 baseball squad to hear the news of their season being cancelled last year, but the Central Tigers are getting ready to step up to the plate for the long and grueling season ahead.
After the cancellation of the 2020 baseball season, due to the COVID-19, Justin Leiser will finally get his first opportunity to coach the Cape Central Tigers as the team’s Head Coach. Leiser served as the assistant coach for the Tigers baseball team prior to securing the job of head coach. He is very dedicated to improving the performance of his team throughout the season and shaping a title-contending caliber team.
Coach Leiser is focusing on each game this season individually, saying, “We’ve done some good things in practice, and we’ve had our fair share of learning and developing moments. We have to understand that there is an amplified level of importance on every single game.” The Tigers won’t be able to get too far ahead of themselves this year with a lengthy 25+ game schedule. The Tigers will be cramming the games within the span of three months.
The Tigers roster is a well-balanced mix of upperclassmen and underclassmen. Coach Leiser stated that no one has solidified a spot on Varsity as of right now and each person must work hard to earn their playing time on the big stage. Leiser said, “What I like seeing right now is that underclassmen are challenging Seniors for spots. Pushing each other every day at practice will make us a stronger team. Most of these guys haven’t played in a competitive varsity game.”
The Tigers are entering the 2021 season with a total of eight experienced seniors. The Tigers are looking to rely heavily on their Seniors this year for leadership and experience. Although they are heavily Senior-loaded, The Tigers will look towards Sophomore Carter Crosnoe behind the dish, who is looking to impress in his first true year of high school baseball.
Senior ace, Kevin Robison III, is looking to end his senior season on a high note. Robinson is lethal from the rubber as a right-handed Pitcher.
Coach Leiser is looking for his pitchers to deliver big for the Tigers this year. When asked about what will help him produce a successful season, Leiser said, “Our keys to success this season will be our pitching staff giving us quality opportunities to win.” The Tigers’ pitching and defense will provide a pivotal role in the Tigers’ success.
The Tigers will kick off their season on March 20, as the visitors versus Union.
