Girls Swimming and Diving Conference

Girls End School Season 2nd At Conference

Girls+Swimming+and+Diving+Conference

Girls Swimming and Diving 2020 season came to an end with Conference. Conference was hosted at Central Municipal Pool, more commonly known as “The Bubble” due to the covering placed over the pool during the winter. The meet consisted of six teams: Cape Central, Poplar Bluff, Farmington, Notre Dame, Jackson, and Saxony Lutheran.

Starting off with the 200 Medley Relay, Ava Duncan, Bella Dennis, Lauren Jauch, and Lana Woolard placed 1st with a time of 1:57.92. Up next, Grace Sanders finished the 200-yard Freestyle 1st overall with a time of 2:02.12. The girls were competing with Poplar Bluff for first place. So far, the expected points called for a close meet. Assistant coach, Chad Sierman, encouraged the team by dressing up as a boxer, refusing to go down without a fight.

Bella Dennis placed 1st in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:19.24. Lauren Lamar and Daley Drum placed 2nd and 3rd in the 50 freestyle with the times 25.48 and 27.23. Lamar lost to a Poplar Bluff swimmer by a mere 39 milliseconds. Lauren Jauch landed 3rd in the 100 butterfly with 1:05.88.

Lamar and Duncan stole 1st and 2nd in the 100 freestyle with times 54.86 and 57.24. The 500-yard freestyle is arguably the hardest event in high school swimming. It is definitely the longest. Grace Sanders won 1st place with a time of 5:41.53, beating the swimmer in second by 16 seconds! Bella Dennis, Lauren Jauch, Lauren Lamar, and Grace Sanders led Cape Central to win the 200 freestyle relay.

Relays are worth double the points of individual events. 1st place in a relay awards the team with 40 points, while 1st place in an individual event awards the team with 20 points. Every point counts.

Moving on to the 100 backstroke, Ava Duncan secured 1st place, going 1:02.45. Bella Dennis won 1st place in the 100 breast, going 1:09.71. Coming to a close, the 400 relay was the last event. The girls geared up, ready for the last swim of the day. Grace Sanders, Olivia Koenig, Ava Duncan, and Lauren Lamar demolished the other teams, winning 1st place with 3:54.76, beating Poplar Bluff by a whole 49 seconds!

The final results were in. Cape Central landed 2nd place overall, falling behind Poplar bluff by only 60 points. The season is not over though. We wish Olivia Koenig, Grace Sanders, Ava Duncan, Lauren Lamar, Paige Elder, Lauren Jauch, Daley Drum, Bella Dennis, and Lana Woolard luck swimming at state!
